MARION, INDIANA – Susan “Susie” Kay (Smith) Vermilion, age 75, of Marion, Indiana passed away on February 20th, 2019 at home, surrounded by family and friends. She was born on December 12, 1943 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Preston and Hazel (Chapin) Smith. Susie attended Arsonal Technical High School. On September 30, 1961 she married Charles Vermilion and they enjoyed 55 years together until his passing in 2017.

Susie was also preceded in death by four of her siblings: Kent Smith, Connie Taylor, Carol Smith, and Linda Sparks.

She is survived by her two children: Colleen Burch of Richmond, Indiana and Charles (Debbie) Vermilion of Fort Wayne, Indiana; four siblings: Roy Smith, Nancy Smith, Ross (Dianna) Smith, and William (Ann) Smith; two grandchildren: Brooke Davis and Brandi (Robert) Wilder; and three great grandsons.

Susie was the well-known and well-loved “lunch lady” of Mississinewa Community Schools, where she was employed for 34 years. She enjoyed the outdoors, feeding the birds and arrowhead hunting. She loved her school kids, her family, her church family and her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was a member of the Jalapa Chapel and requests that memorial contributions be given to her church. Susie will be greatly missed by her family and friends. A special thank you to Gene and Darlene Owens and Bob and Deena Finney on the love and care of Susie in her final months and days.

A memorial service will be held at Jalapa Chapel, 5158 Frances Slocum Trail, Marion, Indiana 46952 on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor James Schroeder officiating. Family will receive friends for a time of visitation just prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Flowers may be delivered to the church on Saturday, February 23, 2019 from 10:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m.
