KOKOMO, IN — Meta I. Hume, age 82, of Kokomo, died suddenly on October 23, 2023. She was a minister's daughter, born to the late Kurt and Iva Matschulat (Herring) on October 4, 1941, in St. Charles, MO. Meta graduated from high school in 1959 and later graduated, with honors, from Evangel University in Springfield, MO with bachelor’s degree in English and drama. She traveled for four years in evangelistic revival meetings. She even traveled to Brazil and South America twice, once with her father and once with her husband. She also worked for an entire summer on an archeological dig in Israel with a group from her university.

She married her lifelong love, Ralph Timothy Hume, on October 20, 1973, and became the wife of a minister. Meta often co-pastored with her husband and was also able to play multiple instruments, including the piano. She also gardened and was a seamstress. Those that knew her will remember her for her excellent piano playing and beautiful singing ability. She excelled at writing and wrote several one person dramas that she personally portrayed; several times on a district level in our denominal meetings, plus in numerous churches in several different denominations While pastoring with her husband she traveled back to Israel for a group tour one year.

She leaves behind her husband of 50 years, Timothy Hume; children, Autumn Wood (Robert III) of Dunnellon, FL, Justin Hume of Kokomo, IN, and Leighton Hume of Kokomo, IN; grandchildren, Reeghan Wood, Corbin Hume, and Mariska Hume.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by sisters, Roberta Thompson, Wilma Davis, Esther Daht, Lois Ams, and Naomi Moody.

Family will receive friends on Friday, October 27, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at New Life Church, 1803 E. Vaile Ave., Kokomo, IN 46901. A service will follow at 12:00 p.m. also at the church with Pastor Devin Galloway officiating. Flowers may be delivered to the church on Friday between 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at South Union Cemetery, Kokomo, IN.
