1933 - 2023
HUNTINGTON – Sandra “Sandy” A. Schacht, age 90, of Huntington, Indiana, passed away on Friday, December 15, 2023, at Wellbrooke of Wabash.
She was born on November 11, 1933, in Huntington, to the late Hobart and Dorothy (Clark) Schacht.
In addition to her parents, Sandy was preceded in death by her brother, Hobart Schacht, Jr.
Sandy is survived by her sister, Natalie Beal of Andrews, Indiana; her nieces and nephews, Jodi (Garth) Mook, Bobby (Cake) Beal, Terry (Kris) Beal, Bart (Kim) Schacht, Nate Schacht; her sister-in-law, Tammy Schacht; and countless other grandnieces, and grandnephews.
Sandy dedicated her life to teaching children, teaching 2nd grade in the Huntington County Community School System for 42 years, retiring in 1997. Her other passion was birdwatching. Sandy traveled the world observing countless species of birds in their natural environment. She was a member of the National Audubon Society. She was a loving and caring person. She knitted and donated hats and was a very active volunteer at her church. She loved her family and all her nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 530 Guilford St., Huntington, Indiana 46750. The funeral honoring Sandy’s life will follow at 11:00 AM at the church with Pastor Shalimar Holderly officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Huntington.
