NAPOLEON, OH – Broderick A. Houston, age 67, of Napoleon, OH, was unexpectedly called home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 27, 2022. He was born on January 19, 1955 in Lima, OH to the late Henry and Alma Houston (Sims). Broderick married Shirley Green on March 4, 2012 at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Defiance, OH. He was a devout Christian and dedicated deacon of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church. Broderick was a brother of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity and a graduate of Kettering University with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He retired from General Motors, where he began working after graduating from college. He also received a Bachelor’s degree from Anchor Bible College through Fort Wayne College of Theology. Broderick was a member of the Robert Bowles Karate Academy in Defiance, OH, where he studied the martial arts system of Shuri-Ryu. Broderick’s hobbies included BBQ, Chess, karate, and he was exceptionally proud of his prayer calls group. He will always be remembered for being the dutiful eldest son and the first to graduate from college.

Broderick leaves to cherish his memory, wife of ten years, Shirley Houston; children, Charlie (Kim) Askins, Jeff (Tracey) Askins, Louis (Courtney) Green, Lamar Green, and Jennifer Jenkins; siblings, Inez Houston and Eric (Adele) Houston; nieces and nephews, Nikko, Andre, Zeke, Eric, Ramus, and Ashleigh, and many extended family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Roderick Houston and sisters, Lydia and Detri Houston.

Family will receive friends on Thursday June 2, 2022 beginning at 11:00am at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, 1544 Ottawa Ave., Defiance, OH 43512, where a funeral service will follow at 12:00pm with Pastors Ray Gaffney and Dr. Michael E. Carter, Jr. officiating. Broderick’s place of final rest will be the mausoleum at Memorial Park Cemetery, 3000 Harding Hwy., Lima, OH. Instead of flowers, family prefers memorial contributions be made to the church or to a charitable organization, in memory of Broderick. However, if desired, flowers may be delivered to the church on Thursday between 8:30 – 10:30am.
