DEFIANCE, OH – Harold Eugene Steinmetz, age 81, of Defiance, passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2022. He was born on July 11, 1941 in Albany, OH to the late Charles and Thelma (McCall) Steinmetz. Harold served in the United States Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and on May 29, 1965 he married the love of his life, Joan (Holland) Steinmetz. He worked as a line operator for Johns Manville for 33 years, retiring in 2004. Harold loved the Lord and was very involved in his church, Bethel Church, in Defiance, where he was an Elder. He was also a Deacon at his previous church, Dayspring Christian Church. He loved planes and enjoyed going to the Air Force Museum with his friends and family. Harold was a “father” to many, and had a very giving heart.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Ronald “Ronnie” Steinmetz.

Harold is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Joan Steinmetz; sons, Harold Steinmetz of Bryan, OH, Craig (Tracy) Steinmetz of Angola, IN, Keith Steinmetz of Bryan, OH, and Jason Steinmetz of Defiance, OH; grandchildren, Brett (Jacob) Behringer, Brendan Steinmetz, Brady Steinmetz, Trevor Weiderman, Bree Steinmetz, Sadie Steinmetz, Tyler Jehanyar, and Josh Jehanyer, as well as numerous friends.

Family will receive friends on Friday, July 29, 2022 at Bethel Church, 20000 County Road 424, Defiance, OH 43512 between 10:00 and 11:00 AM. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM with Pastor Tim Hacker officiating. Flowers may be delivered to the church on Friday between 8:00 and 11:00 AM. Burial will take place at Riverview Memory Gardens, Defiance, OH. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the church in honor of Harold.
