DEFIANCE, OH – Burnell E. Hammons, age 85, passed away on Monday, September 5, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 2, 1936, in Indiana, to the late Burnell H. and Inis Hammons (Butler). Burnell married his life-long sweetheart, Marie Eis, on June 6, 1954, in Defiance, OH and began raising a family. He worked for Pentecostal Church of God as a missionary for 26 years. In his spare time, Burnell enjoyed hunting and fishing. He had a great love of the outdoors, as well as his family. Burnell was a member of the Pentecostal Church of God and will always be remembered for his willingness to help others.

Burnell is survived by his wife of 68 years, Marie Hammons; children, Debra (Howard) Pleasant of Defiance, OH and David (Julie) Hammons of Defiance, OH; sisters, Ruth (Ray) Hanna, Louise Craft, and Thelma (Jim) Wirts; 10 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren, as well as a host of extended family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sons, Daniel and Mark Hammons; sister, Sharon Louth; grandson, Juan Espinoza III, and in-laws, Lester and Mildred Eis.

Visitation will be Friday, September 9, 2022, from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Restoration Tabernacle, 9119 Christy Rd., Defiance, OH 43512 and Saturday, September 10, 2022, from 10:00 -11:00 a.m. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Janet Strickland officiating. Burial will take place at Evansport Cemetery. Flowers may be delivered to the church on Friday between 3:00 – 5:00 p.m.
