DAYTON, OH – Catherine Ann Grundy-Davis, age 72, of Dayton, passed away early Friday morning, December 15, 2023, at her home in Dayton, OH. Catherine, called “Cookie” or “Cathy” was born on November 8, 1951, in South Bend, IN, to Jessie (Canada) Smith and the late Dearest Aquila Smith.

Cathy was an active member of St. Paul Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in South Bend for over 30 years until relocating to Dayton, OH in 2004 and became an active member of Dominion Ministries International. She retired from the City of South Bend as the Director of Human Rights and Human Resources. In her retirement years, she served as an administrative assistant in local charter schools, currently Horizon Science Academy.

In addition to her father, Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Davis; sisters, Myrtle Smith, Jeannette Johnson, and Nettie Williams; brother, Melvin Smith, and grandson in-law, Jay Johnson.

Along with Cathy’s mother, Jessie McClain (Smith) of South Bend, she is survived by her children, Diana “Grundy” (William) Peterson of Dayton, OH and Landon (Lisa) Hubbard of Huber Heights, OH; grandchildren, Catherine Breanna Johnson and William “Pete” Peterson III; sisters, Bernice Harris and Charlene Smith of South Bend, Karen “Lynn” (Richard) Gordon of Minnesota; brothers, Cedric Smith and Joe (Deborah) Mobley of South Bend, and Brian Johnson of Milwaukee.

Visitation will be 12:00PM on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at The Chosen Church at 295 E. Salem Ave., Dayton, OH 45315. A service honoring Catherine’s life will be held at 1:00 PM, with Pastor Bruce Moxley, Jr. of Dominion Ministries International, officiating. Flowers may be delivered to the church on December 30th between 8:00 and 11:00AM.
