James “Jim” Lewis Barger

1933 - 2026

Muncie, IN – James “Jim” Lewis Barger, age 92, of Muncie, IN passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2026. Jim was born September 1, 1933, in Pekin, Ohio to the late Chester and Bessie (Woodruff) Barger. Jim graduated from Bethel High School, Bethel, Ohio in 1951, and later earned an engineering degree from the University of Cincinnati. Jim also served in the army from 1954-1956, working for President Eisenhower at Camp David.

On July 20, 1957, in Amelia, Ohio he married his sweetheart, Dolores Emily Stockton. Jim worked as a Quality Control Engineer for General Electric until his retirement.

In his free time, Jim enjoyed golf and bowling, winning many awards and trophies. He also enjoyed traveling and dancing with a square-dancing group, serving for several years as their treasurer. He was an avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds, Bengals, and Bearcats. Jim loved his family and enjoyed playing poker with his brothers, taking vacation trips with Dolores and Pam (as a child), and having holiday meals followed by games with his grandchildren.

Jim had a pleasant and jovial personality that made him a favorite resident of those who cared for him at Westminster Village and Muncie Estates.

Those left to cherish memories of Jim include his daughter, Pam (Steve) Huddleston of Muncie, IN; siblings, Rosalee Robinson, Ronald (Susan) Barger both of Bethel, OH, Janis (Mike) Shebesta of Anderson Township, OH, and Dennis (Patricia) Barger of Carmel, IN; Grandchildren, Heather (Jason) Burns and Aaron Huddleston; Great-grandchildren, Jaimilyn Burns and Joshua Burns; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Dolores Barger; and brother, Donald Barger.

Visitation will be on Friday, July 24 from 11:00 AM -12:00 PM at 3C Community Christian Church, 125 E. Plane Street in Bethel, OH 45106. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM at the church with his son-in-law, Pastor Steve Huddleston, officiating. Burial will take place at Tate Township Cemetery, Bethel, OH.

Flowers may be delivered to the church on Friday between 9-11 AM. Memorial contributions may be made to 3C Community Christian Church or to University Christian Church in Jim’s honor.
