Milly A. Chambers

1938 - 2024

MARION, IN- Milly A. (Johnson) Chambers, age 86, died on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at her home. She was born on July 12, 1938, in Terre Haute, IN, to the late Robert A. and B. Viola Johnson. In addition to her parents, Milly was preceded in death by her son, Kenny Chambers, and her sister, Darlene Garmon.

Milly was a 1956 graduate of Van Buren High School where she was an Aces Cheerleader. She also tap danced at Gayle Tutterow Studio of Dance. She attended Indiana State University in Terre Haute. Milly worked for Marion Family Practice for over 23 years as an insurance clerk for four doctors and worked a second job at the Marion Moose Lodge for many years, making many friends. After retiring from Marion Family Practice, she worked at Cataract and Laser Institute. Friends and family will remember her fun sense of humor, loyalty to family and friends and being a hard worker. She was known to help anyone. She enjoyed going to Las Vegas with her friends. Milly’s favorite day of the year was Christmas Eve. She looked forward to having her whole family together. You never knew who would be at her Christmas Eve party because she never wanted anyone to be alone on Christmas Eve.

Milly is survived by her three daughters, Kathy (Dan) Edwards, Karen Chambers, both of Marion, IN, and Karolee (Michael) Gregerson of Huntington, IN; her grandson and great-granddaughter, Kurt and Kaydence Chambers, who she raised. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Kara (Adam) Hendey, Kristan (Donavon) Higginbotham of Marion, IN, Dr. Teneal (Jeremy) Gardner of Swayzee, IN, Emily (Jeramie) Morris of Huntington, IN, Kristopher Chambers of Marion, and Brandon Stempfley of Portacallo, ID; Dr. Kora (Jake) Smith of Indianapolis, IN; Olivia Chambers of Elkton, MI; her great-grandchildren, Leah, Lane, Kalab, Eli, Logan, Brock, Angel, Elizabeth, Kiara, Naomi, Zechariah and Ezekiel; her brother, Fred D. Johnson of Franklin, IN; plus many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2024, from 11 AM until the time of her funeral at 1:00 PM at Chapel Pike Wesleyan Church, 2171 W. Chapel Pike, Marion, Indiana 46952, with Pastors Chris Hayden and Jason Fields officiating. Burial will follow at Grant Memorial Park in Marion.

Memorial donations, in memory of Milly, may be made to Stillwater Hospice, 705 S. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN 46953 or to the church. Flowers and gifts may be delivered to the church from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM.
