Vernon Hollingsworth
1943 - 2024
KOKOMO, IN - Vernon R. Hollingsworth, 81, of Sebring, Florida, passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2024. He was born on August 2, 1943, in Kokomo, Indiana to the late Benjamin and Melba Hollingsworth (Miley).
Vernon graduated from Kokomo High School in 1962, and after serving proudly in the United States Air Force (’62-’66), he obtained his associate’s degree from Ivy Tech College. He retired from Delco Electronics (GM) in 1992 after 30 years as a journeyman carpenter. In 2006, he married Brenda J. Chaffin, celebrating 18 years of marriage.
Vern was a Freemason and Past Master of the New London Lodge #283. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite and the Shriners. Vern enjoyed many hobbies such as woodworking, hot-air ballooning, teaching line dancing, DJing, golfing, watching football and golf, and gathering with friends to play Gospel music. He was a pilot and once owned his own plane. His friends will remember him for his generosity in helping others.
Vernon is survived by his wife, Brenda Hollingsworth; children, Kim (Doug) Herrington, Greg Hollingsworth; grandchildren, Stephanie and Thaniel Hollingsworth, and Emily, James, and Hannah Herrington; great-grandchild, Korie Hollingsworth, and stepchildren, David (Julie) Long and Mitch (Carrie) Scott.
He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Fred Hollingsworth, Deborah (Steve) Mahalko, and stepson, Michael Scott.
A private ceremony, with military honors, will be held at a later date. However, friends and family will gather to celebrate his life on Saturday, November 2, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at New Life Church, 1803 E. Vaile, Kokomo, IN.
