In loving memory of
Loran Edgebert Cox
1929 - 2025
KOKOMO, IN – Loran Edgebert Cox, age 95, of Kokomo, was called home to heaven on October 19, 2025. He was born on November 5, 1929, to the late John Maylon and Naomi Juanita (Taylor) Cox, in Kokomo, IN. Loran was a 1948 graduate of Kokomo High School and served four years in the U.S. Air Force, during the Korean Conflict. He worked for Haynes International as a non-destructive testing lab technician for approximately 31 years, and 6 years on contract.
Loran married the love of his life, Betty Jean Martin, on July 12,1951 in Portland, OR. The two were married for almost 25 years before Betty’s death on July 11, 1976. Loran became a devout follower of Jesus Christ at age 23. For the next nearly 73 years it was his passion to obey and honor Jesus with his life. For years he served at the Bethany Wesleyan Church as Sunday school superintendent, teacher, youth worker, lay leader, board member, trustee, project manager, bus driver, song leader, custodian, treasurer, delegate, and more. His goal was to find ways he could serve and help honor the LORD in people’s lives. Upon retirement he was really excited to have extra time to help others…he was often busy helping someone with a project…or assisting his brother, Bob, at the Kokomo Rescue Mission, with building plans or Christmas box distribution. In his later years, Loran became a member of the Mt. Hope Church of the Nazarene in Berne, IN.
Loran treasured the fact that God loved him, and he wanted to exhibit and share that love with his family. He was always so proud of his children and grandkids with Christmas gatherings being particularly fun having the grandkids guess what gifts were before being opened. Someone once said the world should be a better place because a man has lived…our lives are blessed and better because of Loran.
Loran is survived by his son, John (Karen) Cox, Anderson, IN, son, David (Becky) Cox, Greentown, IN, and daughter, Ruthie Manning of Peru, IN; sister, Faye Campbell; sister-in-law, Sandra Cox; 13 grandchildren, John D. and Joshua Cox, Ryan and Rod Shaffer, Lori Wilson, Brianne Hensley, Israel Cox, Noelle Mitchell, Daniel Cox, Gabrielle Hudson, Samuel Cox, Nikki and Brittany Manning; 30 great-grandchildren; 1 great great-grandchild, as well as many nieces and nephews, who dearly loved their “Uncle Poog.”
In addition to his parents and his wife, he is preceded in death by his siblings, John L. Cox, Charlotte Alexander, Dick Cox, Connie Johnson, Kaye Bales, Anne Conrad, and Bob Cox; daughter and son-in-law, Juanita and Allen Echelbarger, great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Wilson and Boaz Mitchell.
A visitation will be held at the Kokomo Christian Fellowship, 600 S. Dixon Road, Kokomo, IN 46901 on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, from 10am - 12pm. A funeral service will follow at 12pm, with Pastor David Cox officiating. A burial with military honors will take place at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home & Cemetery, Kokomo, IN 46902. Memorial contributions may be given to the Mt. Hope Church of the Nazarene or Guardian Angel Hospice.
