In loving memory of
Robert Steven Benzinger
1961 - 2025
KOKOMO, IN - Robert Steven (Steve) Benzinger, age 64, of Kokomo, Indiana, went home to be in the loving arms of Jesus on the evening of October 24, 2025. He was born on March 21, 1961, in Kokomo, Indiana, and was raised by his beloved late parents, Joseph and Carolyn Wolford. Steve grew up in Kokomo and graduated from Haworth High School, a proud Huskie. Steve married Sandra (Long) Benzinger in 1988, and together they had two daughters. All his girls were the center of his world. Steve was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He will be missed more than words can ever express.
Steve was known for his kind smile, which could light up a room, and his sense of humor. He had a special gift for making everyone laugh, even in his final days. He was the kind of genuine person everyone felt comfortable talking to and was deeply loved by all who knew him.
He was a dedicated General Motors employee and was honored to be selected to serve as the Union Committeeman, which was a role that reflected his care for others. He loved his job and the people he worked with, including his previous employers, Sears and Verizon (GTE). He often shared stories of the laughter and good times he experienced with his coworkers over the years.
Steve was an avid sports fan who loved cheering on the Raiders, Notre Dame football, IU basketball, and the Chicago Cubs. He also had a lifelong love of music and enjoyed talking about his favorite bands, artists, and concerts he had attended over the years. In his younger years, he found joy playing in an adult softball league, where he built many friendships at the ballpark. However, his favorite games were always the ones where his daughters were on the field. He never missed an opportunity to support them, regardless of the activities they participated in.
In addition to Joseph and Carolyn, Steve was preceded in death by his grandparents, Walter and Mary Hendricks and Elmer and Pearl Slavey; fathers-in-law, Jack Long and Carl McClure; mother-in-law, Mae McClure, and brother-in-law, Tom Long.
Steve is survived by his wife, Sandra Benzinger; 2 daughters, Amanda (Jesse) Crow and Sara (Adam) Blazier; siblings, Ron (Melanie) Wolford, Rick Wolford, Regina (Jon) Ashby, and Terry (Vicki) Wolford; his treasured granddaughter, Eliana Crow; and many other beloved family members.
He cherished his family above all else, and he loved spending time with them. While we will miss him more than words can express, we take comfort in knowing he is free of pain, reunited with loved ones, and peacefully home with Jesus.
Steve will be cremated and interred at Albright Cemetery in Kokomo, Indiana. There will be a time to visit on Saturday, December 13, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service honoring his life at 1:00 p.m. at Grace Community Foursquare Church, 2020 S. Goyer Road, Kokomo, IN 46902, with Pastor Reid Crow officiating.
Flowers may be delivered to the church on Saturday, December 13, 2025, from 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. For additional information and to view Steve’s online obituary, please visit www.churchfuneralsdirect.com
