1922 - 2025
WABASH, INDIANA - Rev. William C. Babb Jr. (102) was born to William C. Babb and Dora McGauthey Babb on Saturday, September 9, 1922, in Chillicothe, Ohio. He passed away at 7:32 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at his son's home, surrounded by family in rural Wabash, Indiana following 5 days of hospice care.
Rev. Babb was a World War II combat veteran, having served in the Philippines, in the South Pacific theater. He graduated from Frankfort Pilgrim College in 1950 and immediately began his church pastoral ministries covering 67 years and 8 congregations.
He married Mary Catherine Bendure the day before Pearl Harbor in 1942. They had 6 children together: William (Gloria), David (Freda, deceased), Nancy, John (Rhonda), Stephen (stillborn), and Timothy (Marti). Mary passed away April 14, 2004, in Marion, Indiana. Their union grew to 5 generations and included 15 grandchildren: Cathy (Todd) Burton, Kelly (Paul) Eckart, Matthew (Robbin) Babb, Jerry (Sandy) Shallenberger, Jeanna (Jorge) Hernandez, Amie (Wendell) Meadows, Michelle Kehlor, Bill Babb IV, Tricia (Chris) Beauchamp, Mary Ruth Shallenberger (deceased), Heather (Richard) Owens, Carissa Babb Lambert(Teresa) Lambert, Erin Ulshafer, Jeremy Ulshafer, Tim (Gina) Babb II, 24 great grandchildren,17 great great grandchildren, and sisters, Ruth Wicks of Highland Heights, Ohio and Delores Haupt of Elyria, Ohio.
Rev. Babb enjoyed 5 years residing at Century Fields Independent Living facility in Greentown, Indiana and was a happy resident at the Waters East skilled nursing facility, Wabash, Indiana when he passed.
His life was one of service to his Savior and Lord Jesus Christ whom he served for the last 88 years of his life.
The funeral will be on Thursday, April 17th at the Chapel Pike Wesleyan Church, 2171 W Chapel Pike, Marion, IN. Visitation will be from 11 AM – 12:00 PM. Then a funeral service will follow at noon. Pastor Mike Helvie and Pastor Steve Colter will officiate the service. Memorial contributions in Rev. Babb's honor may be directed to Chapel Pike Wesleyan Church. Donor envelopes will be provided at the funeral. Flowers may be delivered to the church on Thursday, April 17th between 9AM and 11AM. For additional information and to view Rev.
