HUNTINGTON, INDIANA – Richard Allan Alvey, age 88, passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2026. Richard was born on December 25, 1937, in St. Anne, Illinois to the late Roy & Jennie (Buerkman) Alvey. Richard was a 1956 graduate of St. Anne High School and Coyne Electrical School and attended Indiana Institute of Technology. Richard worked for General Electric in Fort Wayne for 35 years, retiring in 2001. On November 18, 1960, he married his high school sweetheart, Janice Koopmans in Wichert, Illinois. Richard and Janice were blessed with three children, daughter, Jenny (Mark) Patty - both deceased, and sons, Joseph (Debbie) of Nevada and Luke Alvey of Versailles, France.

In addition to his sons, Richard is survived by his wife of 65 years, Janice Alvey; two sisters, Esther (James) Morrison of North Manchester and Mary Ann DeYoung of Krakow, Wisconsin; grandchildren, John (Angie) Patty, Ben Patty, Rachel (Shawn) Cole, Sarah Patty, Daniel (Melissa) Patty, Brandon (Nicole) Alvey, Francois Alvey and Elmo Alvey; great grandchildren, Caleb, Calista, Lucas, Katen, Mia, Zachery, Halle, Eli and Owen, and two step-grandchildren, Maleah and Taitem.

He was preceded in death by his four brothers, Wayne, James, Roy, and Thomas, as well as five sisters, Burdell Raymond, Violet, Gertrude Wroughton, Bonnie Wehrman, and Margo Mason.

Visitation will be on Thursday, September 24, 2026, from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at New Hope UBIC Church, 2001 Engle Street, Huntington, Indiana, with a funeral services following at 12:00 PM. Pastor Jon Reeder will be officiating. Burial will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery, Huntington, Indiana. Flowers may be sent to the church Thursday morning between 8:00 – 10:00 AM.
