PERU, IN - Betty Jean Malott, age 86, of Peru, IN went home to be with the Lord on July 25, 2026. She passed away at Miller’s Merry Manor Nursing Home in Marion, IN with her family at her bedside. She was born in High Point, NC on February 19, 1940, to the late Ernestine and Claude Hess. Betty was a graduate of Maury High School in Norfolk, VA in 1958. On March 14, 1959, she married her sweetheart, Ernest W. Malott and the two began raising a family together. Betty was a homemaker, a seamstress at Senger Dry Goods Department Store, and retired from Kmart after working there 20 years. In her free time, she enjoyed sewing, embroidery work, and shopping. She was a member of Parkview United Methodist Church.

Betty is survived by her daughters, Deborah E. Raver of Marion, IN and Cynthia E. (Willie) Morris of Bunker Hill, IN; grandchildren, Stacy E. Raver, of Marion, IN, Michael E. (Emily) Raver of Gas City, IN, and Ian C. Morris of Bunker Hill, IN, as well as a great granddaughter, Ellie. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by Ernest Malott, her husband of 50 years.

Visitation will be on Friday, July 31st from 11:00 a.m. to 12 Noon at Mount Hope Cemetery Chapel, 411 N. Grant Street, Peru, IN 46970. A service honoring Betty’s life will follow at 12 Noon at the chapel, with Pastor Dallas Decker officiating. A graveside committal service will take place immediately after the service in the chapel.
