In loving memory of

Linda Kay Bovee-Whitney

1943 - 2026

SOUTH BEND, IN - Linda Kay Bovee-Whitney, 82, died peacefully on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, in her South Bend home, surrounded by her family.

Linda worked many years at Peggie’s Creations, at both the Stroh and Shipshewana, IN locations, before starting her own craft and home decor store known as Linda’s Country at Heart in Shipshewana. You could also find her decor items in numerous consignment shops around the state.

Before starting her work life, she was blessed to be a stay-at-home mom. This allowed her to be involved in many activities surrounding her children. She was an active PTO participant, as well as teaching art classes for her children’s school programs. Later in life, she was privileged to be one of the Bible teachers at the local elementary.

Linda was born in South Bend, IN on December 26, 1943, to the late Louis E. and Gladys (Hendricks) Dorsett. She married H. Byron Bovee on November 22, 1962, in South Bend. After his death in 2002, Linda married Roland “Ron” Whitney of South Bend in 2011. He died in 2018.

She attended Grace Point Church in Osceola, IN. Those who knew Linda knew she always had a song to sing. She was one of the most joyful people you could ever hope to meet.

Linda is survived by her brother, Carl Dorsett of French Lick, IN; sister, Judi Frenzel of Hauser, ID; bonus sister, Carolyn Wenger of Elkhart; four children: Michael (Tara) Bovee of Kendallville, along with their six children (Tiffany Stovall, Alyssa Gibson, Conner, Brodie, Bethany, and Cooper Bovee), Jeffery (Cheri) Bovee of Stroh, and their two children (Clarissa Duehmig and Cassandra Robertson), Jonny (Christi) Bovee of Stroh, and their six children (Alegra, Diella, Josiah, Benaiah, Saphira, and Hadassah Bovee), and Miranda Bovee of South Bend, as well as 10 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and both husbands, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Hazel Thurman, Patty Baker, Helen Bauman-Stickel, and Peggy Widuch.

Visitation will be Monday, February 23, 2026, from 3-8 pm at Stroh Church of Christ, 4540 S. 1100 W., Hudson, IN 46747 and again from 10-11 am on Tuesday, February 24, 2026. A funeral service will follow at 11am on Tuesday at the church with Pastor Norman Andrews officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her late husband, Byron, at Lake Bethel Cemetery in rural Lagrange. Flowers may be delivered to the church on Monday between 1-3 pm. Memorial donations may be made to the church, in honor of Linda. Donation envelopes will be provided at the church.
