Maureen Blackburn
1954 - 2025
LAFAYETTE, IN – Maureen I. Blackburn, age 71, of Lafayette, died peacefully on July 26, 2025, with her family by her side. She was born on June 11, 1954, in Spencer, IA, to the late Vern and Evelyn (Miller) Smith.
Maureen worked as a heat treat operator and supervisor for Alcoa for 18 years before retiring in 2007. She married Steve Blackburn on May 6, 2000, in Lafayette, IN and the two blended their families. Maureen was a multitalented and intelligent individual who loved to crochet, cook/bake, and do woodworking. She even did a little welding. Maureen also loved art, was deeply religious, and enjoyed reading, especially the Bible and Nora Roberts novels. Family and friends will remember her as being a loving and caring person, whether she knew you or not, she had the biggest heart.
She leaves behind her husband of 25 years, Steve Blackburn; children, Robin Slone and Angela Powell, and 18 grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers, Dennis and Byron Smith.
Visitation will be on Friday, August 1, 2025, from 11 AM – 12 PM at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 2400 Edgelea Drive, Lafayette, IN 47909. A funeral service will follow at 12 PM, at the church, with Pastor Nathan Eikenberry officiating. Burial will be at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens, West Lafayette, IN. Flowers may be delivered to the church on Friday between 9 – 11 AM. Memorial contributions may be made to the church, in honor of Maureen.
