DEFIANCE, OH – Gustavo “Gus” Chavez, age 63, of Defiance, died suddenly on Saturday, November 2, 2024. He was born on May 20, 1961, in Defiance, to Baltazar and Amelia Chavez (Gonzalez).
He was a 1979 graduate of Defiance High School and later married Sandra Rangel on June 17, 1989, in Defiance, OH. He worked as a translator and trainer for Sauder Furniture Manufacturing. Although he never served in the military, Gus was a member of the F.O.E., the V.F.W., Moose Lodge, and Amvets. In his free time, he enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. Gus also loved talking to people. Family and friends will remember him as the type of person who never met a stranger, loved everyone, and lit up a room when he entered.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Sandra Chavez; children, Stephanie Chavez 41, Kailiegh Rangel 37, Nathan (Amanda) Chavez 36, and Mathew Montez 28; siblings, Balatizar (Molly) Chavez, Isabel (Marc) Angelo, Denis (Kim) Chavez, Cindy (Joe) Chavez-Figueroa, and Yolanda Chavez; grandchildren, Iziaah, Malachi, Koriegh Caleyana, Luka, and man’s best friend, “Howie Martin Chavez”.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Baltazar and Amelia Chavez and grandparents, Jesus and Lucinda Gonzalez.
Visitation will be Saturday, November 9, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Defiance Christian Church, 955 Standley Road, Defiance, OH 43512, where a funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. officiated by Pastor Vince Cantu. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Defiance, OH. Flowers may be delivered to the church on Saturday between 8:00-10:00 a.m. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the family or to the church.
