DEFIANCE, OH - Marvin John Steingass, age 92, of Defiance, died on January 7, 2025. He was born on January 22, 1932, to the late Carl R. and Beatrice W. Steingass (Zachrich) in Pleasant Township, Henry County, OH. Marvin was a 1951 graduate of Holgate High School. He was a Korean War veteran who served in the U. S. Army from 1952-1953 and was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Marvin farmed with his dad and brother while also working at the Holgate Grain and Supply Elevator. He later worked as a meat processor for Dinner Bell Foods. His work continued later in life with his wife, Helen, as they worked in maintenance and cleaning at the Lutheran Home in Napoleon and then St. John Lutheran School, in Defiance, where they were both longtime members. He also enjoyed mushroom hunting, gardening, and basketball. His friends and family will always remember him as a hard worker with a quiet demeanor.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Helen Steingass; daughter, Peggy Jean Steingass; twin sister, Marilyn Rayle, and brother, Lloyd Steingass.

Marvin is survived by his children, Doreen (Ronald) Gump, Jeffrey (Christie) Steingass, Roxanne (Mike) Sample, and step-children, Susan (Phil) Pike, Beth Rupp, Ralph (Sandy) Boger Jr., Shirley (Keith) Neiderhiser, and Laura (Mark) Bronson, as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and a great great grandchild.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. John Lutheran Church, 655 Wayne Ave., Defiance, OH 43512. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM at the church, with Pastor Kurt Mews officiating. Burial will take place at St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Holgate, OH. Flowers may be delivered to the church on Wednesday between 9:00 – 11:00 AM. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to St. John Lutheran Church or to CHP Hospice Care, in honor of Marvin.
