Robert Meyer
1930 - 2025
HICKSVILLE, OH – Robert Wayne Meyer, age 94, of Hicksville, died on February 4, 2025. He was born on February 19, 1930, to the late Edward and Mary (Zuber) Meyer, in Antwerp, OH. Robert was a 1948 graduate of Antwerp High School and later attended Detroit Technical College earning a certificate in TV and electronics engineering. He was also a veteran, having served in the United States Air Force from 1948-1952. On June 4,1956 he married his sweetheart, Janis Carr, and together they began raising a family.
Robert enjoyed snow skiing, spending time at his cottage by the lake, and taking fishing trips. Robert and Janis loved traveling together and often spent their winters in Florida. They were also members of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Hicksville, OH, where Robert was actively involved. He also kept up with his grandchildren’s many sporting events, attending every game that he could. Robert was a Fourth-Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, member of the American Legion, and a Charter Member of the VFW in Antwerp. Family and friends will remember him most for being the family handyman and teaching those skills to the next generation.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Janis Meyer; brother, Virgil Meyer, and sisters, Margaret Hissong and Mary Lou Slusher, as well as son-in-law, William Wills.
Robert is survived by his children, Laura Wills, Robert P. (Polly) Meyer, Jean (Richard) Thiel; siblings, Norman Meyer and Rama Sarazin; 9 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Suzie (Lynn) Haver, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 100 Antwerp Dr., Hicksville, OH 43526. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at the church at 12:00 PM with Father Dan Borgelt officiating. Burial with military honors will take place at Forest Home Cemetery, Hicksville, OH. Flowers may be delivered to the church on Wednesday between 8:00-10:00 AM. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael’s Catholic Church or to Defiance County Senior Services, in honor of Robert.
