DEFIANCE, OHIO – Marie C. Hammons, age 88, of Defiance, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2025. She was born on February 25, 1937, in Defiance, Ohio to the late Lester and Mildred (McFetters) Eis.

Marie married the late Burnell E. Hammons, June 6, 1954. They were married for 68 years. She was a stay-at-home mom, who cared faithfully for her family, but she also worked alongside her husband as a missionary to the Indian people. She also supplemented the family by decorating and selling beautiful cakes. She was a member of the Restoration Tabernacle. She enjoyed quilting, cooking, baking and sewing. She was a sweet, caring lady.

In addition to her husband and her parents, Marie is predeceased by her sons, Daniel and Mark Hammons; her grandson, Juan Espinoza III; her brothers, Paul, Don, and Bob Eis, and her in-laws, Burnell and Inis (Butler) Hammons. She is survived by her daughter, Debra (Howard) Pleasant; her son, David (Julie) Hammons; 10 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren; and her sisters-in-law, Ruth (Ray) Hanna, Louise Craft, and Thelma (Jim) Wirts.

The family will receive visitors at Restoration Tabernacle, 9119 Christy Rd, Defiance, OH. There will be a visitation on Tuesday, April 22 from 5-8 PM. Then on Wednesday, April 23 from 10 – 11 AM. A funeral service will follow at 11 AM with Pastor Janet Strickland officiating. Interment will be at the Evansport Cemetery immediately following the service.

Memorial contributions may be directed in Marie’s honor to Restoration Tabernacle. Donor envelopes will be provided at the funeral.
