DEFIANCE, OH – Michael A. VanScoder, age 75, of Defiance, died peacefully on June 6, 2025, at home surrounded by his family. He was born on October 11, 1949, in Defiance, OH, to the late Guy and Amy (Font) VanScoder. Michael was a 1968 graduate of Oakwood High School and later served in the U.S. Army from 1969-1970. On November 23, 1969, he married his sweetheart, Wanda Fillman, and the two began raising a family. Michael worked in the telephone industry, often handling installations and repairs. He was also a member of the Defiance VFW and the Vietnam Veterans of America. Michael enjoyed going to car shows, watching football, baseball, and basketball; and in his earlier years played softball. Spending time with his grandchildren was also one of the most important things to Michael.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Wanda VanScoder; children, Shannon Spears of Ayersville, OH, Michael VanScoder Jr. of Defiance, OH, Robert (Grace Lopez) VanScoder of Defiance, OH, April (Shon) Cantu of Paulding, OH; sister, Pat (Mike) Rogers of Defiance, OH; 13 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by sister, Donna Becker of Xenia, OH.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2025, from 10:00-11:00AM at Bethel Church Defiance, 20000 County Rd. 424, Defiance, OH 43512. A memorial service will follow at 11:00AM at the church with Pastor Tim Hacker officiating. Flowers may be delivered to the church on Saturday between 9:00-10:00AM.
