Darrell Wayne Handy
1955 - 2026
DEFIANCE, OHIO - Darrell W. Handy, age 71, of Defiance, died on March 30, 2026. Darrell was born on January 9, 1955, in Louisville, Kentucky, to the late Herbert G. Handy and Lillian A. “Pudd” (Penn) Handy.
Darrell was a 1973 graduate of Fairview High School and later attended Northwest State Community College, where he earned his Associate of Science degree in Business & Management. He graduated from Defiance College, earning his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
Darrell worked for Titan Tire in Bryan, Ohio, for 42 years, retiring in 2015. He later served as President and CEO of the Defiance Area Chamber of Commerce from 2015 to 2019. In retirement, Darrell also worked part-time with Cooper Farms and was most recently employed as a PR & Business Partnerships Specialist at MetaLINK Technologies.
Darrell was involved in various community organizations, including the Elks Lodge, Defiance College’s Purple and Gold Club, and the Defiance Area YMCA. He served on Defiance City Council for 18 years. He was a former trustee of Northwest State Community College, a former member of the Defiance County Economic Development Board, and a charter member of the Defiance Chapter of Toastmasters International.
On October 27, 2002, he married his sweetheart, Kimberly Stambaugh.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kimberly Handy; three children, Leah (Robert) Jones of Saint Paul, Minnesota, Adam Handy of Defiance, and Sarah (Chris) Garcia of Defiance, and six grandchildren, Barrett Jones; Parker, Payton, and Paxton Handy, Mya and CJ Garcia.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 10, 2026, at Bethel Christian Church of Arthur, 14988 County Road 209, Defiance, Ohio 43512 with Pastor Chris Baker officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. A meal for family members will follow the service.
Flowers may be delivered to the church on Friday, between 9:00-10:00 AM. Memorial donations may be made to Bethel Christian Church or Northwest State Community College in Darrell’s honor.
