In loving memory of

Raetta Maurer

1948 - 2026

LIMA, OH - Raetta Maurer, age 77, of Lima, Ohio, died on July 23, 2026, at 7:20 PM. She was born October 3, 1948, in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of the late Fredrick Leo “Fred” and Lenora (Kishman) Holfelder. In her early years, while her father served as a Marine, her family moved around quite a bit. However, in time the family settled in Lorain, where she attended Lorain Schools until moving to the Lorain Clearview District from which she graduated in 1966. She lived in Lorain County and completed her studies at Lorain County Community College in 1968, with a degree in Medical Assistance. In 1969, she married Thomas Maurer and moved to Marion, where they lived for 57 years until moving to Lima in 2026.

Rae began her career at The Smith Clinic in Marion as a medical assistant. She also worked in the home office of L & K Enterprises in accounting until she was blessed with children. When her children, David and Lorenne started school, she worked in the school system as a teacher’s aid and then as a cook. In later life, she worked for the Crawford County MRDD as an aid. She also drove a bus for the Senior Citizens. Rae had a servant heart and enjoyed helping New Vision FM with their Shareathon and newsletter. In the summers she helped with four different churches’ Vacation Bible Schools. She would help other organizations as needed, including Girl Scouts and PTA.

As Rae’s capacities began to diminish due to dementia and our family wanting to keep her social, we decided to take her out to hand deliver our utility payments and other bills to local businesses, which she always did with a smile. She was also very involved with the Marion Modern Woodsmen Camp and the Red Hats Club. Her faith was also very important to her. She was a member and involved with St. John’s Evangelical Church and did daily devotions in the morning and evening.

Rae is survived by her husband of 57 years, Thomas E. Maurer, of Lima; son, David (Beth) Maurer of Pigeon, MI; daughter, Lorenne Maurer, of Lima; four grandchildren, Elam, Magdalene, Josiah, and Silas; sisters, Martha (Bob) Stich of Berea and Kimberly (George) Halitzka of Lorain; brother, Fred Holfelder of Toledo, as well as a niece, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by newborn brother, Brian Holfelder.

Visitation will be at 10:00 AM Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at St. John’s Evangelical Church, 211 E. Carrol Street, Kenton, OH 43326, with a faith-based Celebration of Life at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Randall Forester officiating. A graveside committal will take place on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at 4:00 PM at the Pittsfield East Cemetery, Pittsfield, Ohio. The family requests that you consider making a donation to the church, New Vision FM, or to the Alzheimer’s Association in honor of Rae instead of sending flowers.
