Patrick “Pat” William Ryan, 87, of Sylvania, OH, went to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ on October 27, 2025.

Pat was born on September 15, 1938, in Toledo, OH, to the late R. Benjamin and Ruth (Balser) Ryan. He graduated from Macomber High School in 1956 and went on to work for Bearings, Inc. in Toledo for 10 years. He served in the US Army Reserves 325th FDH (financial unit) from 1961-1967. For 36 years, Pat was a salesman with Derkin & Wise, Inc. until retiring in 2003. His family remembers him as a hard worker who wanted to glorify God in all his efforts and to provide for his family and friends.

From his birth, Pat was raised attending Emmanuel Baptist Church. At the age of 15, through the hearing of the gospel and realization of his need, he put his faith fully in Jesus Christ and His saving work for the forgiveness of his sins and a right relationship with God. In 1965, Pat married Loretta “Lori” Friesen at Emmanuel, where they raised their four children to also love the Lord. They found many opportunities during their marriage to show hospitality and to share God’s love—often in the form of hosting friends, family, and missionaries at their home. They also gave their time serving with Groceries for Life in the last several years.

Pat had a heart for sharing the gospel with others and leading his fellow believers to a deeper love of Christ. He served as a deacon at Emmanuel, where he also taught a boys’ Sunday school class. For a number of years, he also led the Intercessors ministry at church. His family and friends remember him as a prayer warrior who faithfully went before his Heavenly Father in thanksgiving and in making requests (and in asking others to see how a prayer might have been answered). He often encouraged himself and his family by quoting Psalm 46:1, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”

As a father and grandfather, Pat was eager to ensure that his children learned how to honor God in all of life. He faithfully supported his children and grandchildren in their various activities and interests. He enjoyed cheering them on in their sports, helping them practice, and even coached many of his children’s athletic teams. Pat planned many family trips across the country with his wife and kids, including Washington, DC, and Niagara Falls. One of his favorite vacation spots, however, was Little Eden Camp in Onekama, MI, where the family began visiting in 1973. The Ryan family was blessed to spend time with him at Little Eden this year shortly after Lori’s passing.

Pat is survived by his sister, Colleen (Michael) Mariage; his four children, David (Linda), Jeff (Kari), Krista (David) Rodgers, and Steve (Emily); as well as his 13 grandchildren (and 3 spouses) and 3 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Pat was preceded in death by his wife, Lori; and his brother, Edward.

A visitation will be held at Emmanuel Baptist Church on Friday, October 31, 2025 from 5-7 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the church Saturday, November 1, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Duke Crawford officiating. He will be buried with his wife and parents at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. The service will be livestreamed on the Emmanuel Baptist Facebook page or website.

The family requests that instead of flowers, donations be made to Cherry Street Mission or Emmanuel Baptist Church missionary fund.
