In loving memory of
Bruce Lee Moxley Sr.
1946 - 2026
DAYTON, OHIO – Bruce Lee Moxley Sr., age 79, of Dayton, OH, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2026, at Hospice of Dayton. He was born on December 21, 1946, in Dayton, OH, to the late Charlton and Theresa (Thompson) Moxley. Bruce was a proud 1966 graduate of Dayton Dunbar High School. He continued his education at Central State University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree, and later obtained his master’s degree from the University of Dayton. On June 13, 1970, he married his high school sweetheart, Gloria Ross, in Dayton. Together, they welcomed their son, Bruce Jr. (BJ) and have built a beautiful life.
From a young age, Bruce had a deep passion for music, particularly playing the drums. His musical journey included performing with the Dayton Imperials, who also backed renowned groups such as The Temptations. Bruce was also a devoted church musician, faithfully serving at DMI Dayton. In addition to music, he loved sports and spent more than 50 years coaching, mentoring, and positively influencing young people in the community.
Above all else, Bruce’s greatest love was service to Jesus Christ, his wife, his son and daughter-in-love, his grandchildren, his great-grandchildren, and his DMI Dayton family. Affectionately known as “Elder B,” he lived by the words of Jesus found in Matthew 23:11: “But the greatest among you shall be your servant.” Bruce will be lovingly remembered for his warm smile, his ability to bring joy to others, and the many cherished memories made while traveling with his family on Caribbean cruises.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Gloria (Ross) Moxley; his son, Bruce Jr. (Mashonda); his brother, Michael (Renee) Moxley; his grandchildren, Jamal (Alicia), Justin (Rukiayah), Brece, Breah, Bralyn, Bruc, and Brielle; and his great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Leighton, and Jameela.
In addition to his parents, Bruce was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles Moxley and Timothy Moxley.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 pm on Friday, January 30, 2026, at Maranatha Worship Center, 4501 Wolf Road, Dayton, Ohio 45416, with Bishop Truman Martin officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 11:00 am.
