In loving memory of

Virginia L. McElroy

1936 - 2026

DELPHOS, OHIO - Virginia McElroy, beloved mother, grandmother, family member, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2026, in Delphos, Ohio. Her life was a beautiful reflection of strength, compassion, unwavering faith, and deep love for her family.

Virginia was born on January 14, 1936, in Lima, Ohio, to Loy and Mabel (Morey) Steveley. She graduated from Elida High School and later attended Northwestern College, now known as University of Northwestern Ohio. On March 30, 1958, she married the love of her life, Neil E. McElroy.

Throughout her life, Virginia demonstrated a remarkable work ethic and dedication to helping provide for her family. At the age of 62, she earned her commercial driver’s license (CDL), and she and Neil began traveling together as over-the-road truck drivers—an accomplishment that reflected her strong determination and independence.

In her quieter moments, Virginia found joy in reading Christian romance novels, listening to music, spending time in prayer, and reading her Bible. Her faith remained a steady foundation throughout her life and was evident in the kindness and grace she extended to others.

Virginia is lovingly survived by her four children, Cliffton “Cliff” McElroy, Lucinda “Cindy” Watt Hughes, Melinda “Linda” McElroy Botkin, and Yvonne McElroy; three grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Neil E. McElroy; her grandson, Christopher Mortimer; her great-grandson, Logan Martin, and her brothers, Merlin Steveley and Larry Steveley.

A graveside service will be held at Dayton National Cemetery, 4400 W Third Street, Dayton, Ohio 45428 on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., officiated by Rev. Solomon Okang of Dupont Church in Dupont, Ohio. Virginia’s love, faith, and strength will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
