Betty J. Jennings
1937 - 2025
HICKSVILLE, OHIO – Betty J. Jennings, age 88, of Hicksville, OH, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, in her home. Betty was born on February 8, 1937, in Montrose, West Virginia to the late Ernest and Velma (Burke) Nestor. Betty was wed to the late Lester Jennings. They were married for 28 years.
Betty attained her Bachelor of Science degree and did factory work with Magnavox for thirty years. She also owned the High St. Grill Restaurant and was known to her regulars as “Grandma,” the matriarch of the grill. Betty loved to bake and decorate cakes for those celebrating in her community. She was a long-time member of her local Assembly of God church and was a devoted servant to her church community. A lifetime member of the American Legion, Betty loved to advocate for veterans and their families. Betty enjoyed social times at the senior center. She also loved watching gameshows, reading magazines, and keeping up with the royal family (being thirteen generations removed from the Royals herself).
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Jennings; son in law, Randy Hawkey; twin brother, Robert (Bob) Nestor; and 1st husband, Herb Neff.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Terria (Jolane) Hawkey, and Suzette DeVault(Richard); grandchildren, Jaclyn Byanski(Jeffrey), Michelle Elston (Brian White), Christina Miller (David), Angela Bennett (Chuck), Richie DeVault (Sam) and Kay Nicole Poores (Cody); great-grandchildren, Carl Elston Jr, Mitchell McClish/Combs, Ashton Streeter, Jade McClish, Mallory Sarchet, Jocelynne McClish, Tayla Streeter, Natalee Sarchet, Briar McClish, Emily Byanski, Cameron Byanski, Dezrin Streeter, Nicholas Bennett and Kadyn Bennett; and 13 great great grandchildren as well as her cousin, Starlet Levy.
The family will receive friends at Lifeline Connect Church, 411 Defiance Avenue, Hicksville, Ohio 43526 on Tuesday, March 4, 2025. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 12 p.m. officiated by Pastor Steve Eyers. Burial will follow at Six Corners Cemetery. Funeral dinner at Hicksville Park pavilion after burial. Friends and family are welcome. Flowers may be delivered to the church on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to Hicksville Senior Center or Lifeline Connect Church.
